One day soon

I've been in this town so long
I remember the days
driving through the hills of West Virginia
start spreading the news
manipulated romance
give me a word
from a distance
time keeps on slipping
you were so blind to let me go
I used to be a rolling stone
so listen up
the more I learn, the less I know
ladies and gentlemen
in my dreams
the glove compartment is inaccurately named
suppose I said
I'd drive across the highlands just to see your face
lazy swallow flying homeward
I came apart inside a world
heaven must be missing an angel.


The long and winding road

And I feel this weight lift over me
did I ask for this?
Jesus, don't cry
out of the tree of life
my bones are tired
I don't mind where you come from
he drowns in his dreams
if we can't find a way out of these problems
it came without warning
I can't direct the universe
cool breeze and autumn leaves
isn't it funny how the roads just pass us by?
it's hard to believe
even on a day like this
out of the tree of life
all the leaves are brown
every time I look at you
I've got a hunger
you made me wretched
there is no future.


I don't know where to begin

Doesn't come down when she calls
if I could take you away
I have a smile stretched from ear to ear
my lover's gone
our minds run in circles
fine, I understand
the waves keep on crashing on me for some reason
people living their lives for you on TV
I should tell you
I am here to tell you
If I hadn't made me, I would've been made somehow
everybody's high on consolation
welcome to the real world
you know my soul
lines on your face don't bother me
ten years living in a paper bag
sunlight opened up my eyes
the new day dawns
many nights we prayed
I'm gonna hold on.
